Summary:
Destiny is introduced with a recap of the invasion of Orb beginning with the firing of missiles and the launching of Mobile Suits by the Earth Alliance Fleet. During the battle we see a young family, the Asukas fleeing to the docks during the battle between Calamity, Raider, and Freedom taking place from above. The Family during the process of avoiding explosions and running to the dock, the daughter Mayu drops her cell phone. Refusing to part with it, her brother Shinn slides down the mountain to retrieve it. Just as he reaches the phone a large explosion behind him causes him to be blow down the side of the cliff all the way to the dock. For a moment Shinn lies on the ground unconscious as people hurry to get on the lifeboat. An officer sees him and helps him and begins to guide him towards the boat when suddenly Shinn turns to find his family. Instead he finds a crater form the blast and the mangled bodies of his sister, mother and father. He clinches his sister telephone as he drops to his knees in tears. He looks to the sky and vows revenge against the Gundam that committed this crime, which at the time was Freedom and screams in agony.
Then there is a brief explanation of the events that have taken place in the previous war (SEED) and the treaty that was signed on Junius Seven between the Earth Alliance and Zaft. Destiny begins with the arrival of a transport plane going into plant carrying Cagalli Yula Athha who is now the Head Representative of Orb. Also at this time is Zaft is preparing for her arrival as well as for the Supreme Chairman Gilbert Dullindal. Vino and Lunamaria who are riding in a jeep through the base nearly kill themselves by almost crashing in to a ceremonial GINN passing by. Followed after a brief glimpse of the new battleship Minerva and its Captain (Talia Gladys) and co-captain (Arthur Trine) we see the Supreme Chairman step out of his transport helicopter. Rey, an Elite Pilot rushes to get a closer look at the Chairman and salutes as he passes. Chairman Dullindal sees Rey and analogies him with a small smile.
Cagalli Yula Athha and Athrun Zala (who is under cover as Alex Dino, Cagalli’s bodyguard) arrive to talk with Dullindal. As Cagalli and Athrun are headed to meet with the Chairman, Athrun questions if Cagalli’s clothing is appropriate for the meeting and he later sees three people (Sting, Auel and Stellar) sitting in a lower level of the building. During the meeting Cagalli request that Chairman cease the aid of Orb in his construction of new mobile suits. Then we see the trio walking down the street and Stellar stops to look at her reflection in the window of a store and then begins to dance in circles as if she is in a play. Sting and Auel continue walking while Stellar becomes entranced in her dance, when suddenly she crashes in to Shinn. Catching her with her breast in his hands, Shinn ask if she is all right. Stellar gets angry and runs off, while Youlan (a friend of Shinn) makes fun of him for supposedly copping a feel.
The Chairman and Cagalli continue their conversation outside walking through the Armoury. Then we see the trio waiting for the arrival of a car with two zaft officers and the three of them jump in the back. In there conversation Cagalli tells the Chairman that she believes that excessive power only leads to more conflict, Dullindal disagrees and states that power is always necessary because conflict will always exist. Guided by the two Zaft soldiers the trio enters a hangar and prepares for their surprise attack. The Three brutally kill all the guards, officers and pilots in the hangar and board the three new Gundams (Chaos, Gaia and Abyss). On the verge of dying one of the guards sounds the alarm the alert the Armoury as the Three Gundams blast out the Hangar.
The three begin destroying hangars to prevent Zaft from deploying as many mobile suits as possible. During the attack the Cagalli and Athrun realize that the new models are not regular Zaft MS’s but that they are gundams. As Rey and Lunamaria head to their mobile suits an explosion causes their MS’s to be knocked over and covered by the rubble from the destroyed Hangar. The Chairman instructs one of the officers to take Cagalli to shelter and also request help from the Minerva. During the attack an explosion kills Cagalli and Athrun’s guide and they are left to fend for themselves. Evading the Chaos gundam they are stopped by the Gaia gundam who is in their path. As the Dinn that was attacking Gaia falls from the sky it lands on a hangar and knocks down a Zaku Warrior and Athrun decides to take Cagalli and jump in the Zaku. As the Minerva receives the call from Armory one, they launch the core splendor, the leg and Chest flyers and the Sword Silhouette.
As Athrun powers up the Zaku he tells Cagalli that he refuses to let her die in this fashion and attempts to defend himself against Gaia. He manages to evade a couple of blast and knocks Gaia’s beam rifle out of its hand. Stellar attacks with he beam saber but Athrun blocks the slashes with his shield and beam axe. Chaos approaches and slices the left arm off the Zaku. Before Sting can advance it is hit from behind by a missile fired from the Core Splendor. As the Core splendor passes Chaos in that brief second it is revealed that the pilot is Shinn Asuka and he combines the Core Splendor and the leg and chest flyers with the Sword Silhouette to form the Sword Impulse Gundam. Impulse combines its two Anti-ship swords and twirls them above its head before igniting the beams on the blades. Shinn questions why there are people trying to start another war and he advances to attack Gaia.
